BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jonathan's Landing will remain open for daily fee golf temporarily in 2026 (weather permitting), even though it was set to close Dec. 31, 2025. The extension gives local golfers extra time to tee off.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Department of Education received an $8.7 million grant on Jan. 6 to improve literacy for grades 4 to 8 + it will use the funds over five years to expand teacher training in civics and history.  Delaware Public Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DelDOT is seeking public input on its 2025 State Rail Plan to guide rail investments over 20 years. The plan (which may include a corridor connecting Dover with Newark, Wilmington, or Maryland stops) invites feedback via an online survey open until Jan. 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.  WDEL
  • The Delaware Department of Labor reduced its unemployment claims backlog by more than 40% from over 7,000 to less than 4,000 by improving operations & staff training. Secretary LaKresha Moultrie said the agency expects to clear the backlog soon and will modernize its software systems to expedite decisions.  Delaware Public Media

  • Bayhealth welcomed the first babies of 2026 as baby boy Erian was born at the Sussex Campus on Jan. 2 at 6:44 a.m. & Najah Rouse delivered baby girl Autumn at the Kent Campus on Jan. 1.  Coast TV
  • The Health2Go mobile clinic will be at Little Lincoln Store, 8405 Front St., on Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering walk-in health services without an appointment (insurance accepted but not required).  Bay to Bay News
  • Donating blood remains crucial during National Blood Donor Month as winter illnesses strain supplies; Blood Bank of Delmarva (with centers in Middletown, Dagsboro, Dover, Christiana and Chadds Ford) holds mobile drives and welcomes donors year-round.
