BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local businesses can tap into new advertising and networking opportunities as the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce announced mid-January events to drive growth. Firms are encouraged to participate to connect with customers and industry peers.  Bay to Bay News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delmarva Power filed an application on Dec. 9, 2025 asking for a $67.8 million base rate increase that may raise customer bills by $6 to $15 if interim rates take effect on July 9, 2026 + regulatory hearings will lead to a final decision by late 2026.  WBOC
  • Delmarva Power filed on Dec. 9 a $67.8 million request with the Delaware Public Service Commission to raise electric base rates and monthly charges in Dover — if approved, interim changes would begin July 9 with a hearing examiner reviewing the request before a final decision expected late this year.  Coast TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Delmarva Chicken Association has opened a scholarship application period offering $2,000 for undergraduates and $3,000 for graduates (poultry careers). Applications are now being accepted in Dover.  Bay to Bay News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 50-year-old sewer main line broke in Camden on Jan. 11 and continues to spill wastewater near Tidbury Creek while county officials work to contain the leak. The Department of Public Works says a bypass line is active and a pumper truck is reducing the flow.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • After a presumptive positive bird flu case in Kent County was reported this past weekend, Delaware Agriculture Week held a session in Harrington to teach farmers protective steps (like dedicated footwear and sanitizing). Officials stressed that strict biosecurity is vital to maintain a $1 billion poultry industry.  WBOC
  • Data released on Nov. 26 showed Delaware had a 216-minute median emergency room visit, the fifth highest in the U.S., compared to a nationwide average of 161 minutes (with Washington, D.C. at 301 minutes).  Delaware Online

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local high school girls basketball teams are on winning streaks as Caravel, Padua, Hodgson, and DMA each secured wins last week, with Caravel posting three wins and DMA remaining undefeated. The teams have upcoming games, including Caravel hosting A.I. duPont and DMA playing Newark Charter at home.  Delaware LIVE
