  • Indian River Volunteer Fire Company's Station #2 is undergoing a $3.5 million expansion—upgrading apparatus bays, radio rooms, and offices to serve a growing community. Construction in Long Neck is set to finish by the first quarter.  Coast TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Independent Newsmedia Inc. announced it will close Delaware Printing Company (110 N. Galaxy Road in Dover) on Feb. 10 as printing shifts to Adams Publishing Group in Easton and its facility in Phoenix. The company says it will support affected employees and keep delivery schedules unchanged.  Bay to Bay News
  • Michelle DiFebo Freeman won the Josiah Marvel Cup at the 189th Delaware State Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner Monday night, recognizing her service to the state. In her remarks, she credited her team and shared advice about working with people smarter than you are & focused on building communities.  WDEL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delmarva Power requested to raise its fixed monthly charge from $13.50 to $15.94 to fund $67.8 million in grid improvements and customer aid programs, as state regulators review the proposal. The new rates may take effect on July 9, 2026, while public advocates caution the change could strain household budgets.  Delaware Online

FINANCE NEWS

  • Tax season for 2025 returns starts Jan. 26 when the IRS and Delaware Division of Revenue begin processing filings. Federal returns are due April 15 with refunds starting Feb. 16 and Delaware returns by April 30, so taxpayers are urged to file electronically for faster processing.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware’s five public housing authorities are urging those on the centralized waiting list for public housing and Housing Choice Vouchers to update or confirm their details online by Feb. 10 (to remain active), officials said. Applications not updated in over a year will be withdrawn from all lists.  Coast TV
  • DNREC announced yesterday a record $2.2M in matching grants to help local governments secure parkland and build recreational trails and play areas across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties.  WDEL
  • Delaware State University (DSU) students Brontë Pepper-Hicks and Trinity Kamami have been selected as Legislative Fellows with the General Assembly for the 2026 session. They will assist lawmakers by conducting policy research in a program that supports nonpartisan work.  Delaware State University
