  • The Back the Blue event (honoring fallen Delaware State Police Cpl. Matthew 'Ty' Snook) has been rescheduled for Feb. 8 at Hudson Fields. Organizers said the change adjusts the plan originally set for Jan. 18.  Coast TV
  • Local plumbers advise homeowners to run a steady stream of water from faucets and keep vulnerable areas heated when temperatures drop below freezing to avoid burst pipes + they urge residents to plan ahead by checking shutoff valves and breaker boxes.  Coast TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Matt Meyer backed a review of the education system on Friday, Jan. 23, supporting district consolidation to cut bureaucracy and boost accountability based on Redding Consortium recommendations. The proposal now awaits further discussion.  Bay to Bay News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A winter storm warning is in effect in Delaware from 7 p.m. today until 7 a.m. Monday. Forecasters expect snow of 6 to 16 inches away from coastal areas + a wintry mix near the shore, with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour on Sunday.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DNREC reminds Delawareans and visitors that sledding, snowboarding, and other activities are not allowed on dunes at Cape Henlopen and Delaware Seashore state parks due to fragile wildlife habitats. The agency advises using marked crossings and checking Outdoor Delaware for approved options (DNREC).  Coast TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, with bitter cold in the forecast, local experts warn drivers against leaving sensitive items such as cellphones, musical instruments, medication, and canned foods in parked cars to avoid damage and waste.   • Dover boys basketball stormed past Milford with a 97-44 win on Thursday, Jan. 22 as Kareem King scored 25 points and Jay'Vion Denis added 21 points in the game.  Delaware Online
  • Caesar Rodney High won 35-31 over Cape Henlopen after scoring 18 final points in a Friday night wrestling match at Henlopen North (in Lewes). In a separate contest, Smyrna wrestlers pinned Sussex Central.  Bay to Bay News
