BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kent County Open for Business returns on Feb. 5 to support local entrepreneurs launching or expanding their ventures, as announced (by the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce).  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Meyer announced a $50-million state and federal investment to boost early childhood education, including $11.3-million from a federal grant+ aimed at improving care. Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay will lead the project+ with a hybrid meeting on Monday, Feb. 23 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  WGMD
  • After a winter storm brought heavy snow, ice and subfreezing temperatures, schools reopened on Feb. 2 with a few delays as local agencies quickly cleared roads and sidewalks—Governor Matt Meyer pressed for faster recovery to reduce lost instruction time.  Bay to Bay News

HEALTH NEWS

  • End-of-life advocates have asked a federal appeals court to allow them to join an appeal of Delaware’s medical aid-in-dying law, filing a motion on Jan. 29 on behalf of residents Susan Boyce & Vickie George. The Third Circuit has not yet ruled on the motion.  Coast TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jordan Skolnick was named permanent athletic director at UD after serving as interim since March. He led the football team into Conference USA and a bowl win, and now oversees 22 varsity teams (including campus recreation programs) to build strong sports initiatives.  Delaware Public Media
  • Sussex Tech High wrestlers won seven of the first eight matches before defeating Milford 46-26 on Monday, marking their fourth win in a row. They will finish their Henlopen North schedule with a match at Caesar Rodney on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  Bay to Bay News
  • After Winter Storm Fern limited games last week, high school teams resumed play — Archmere staged a comeback and Seaford extended its win streak — and the SL24 Basketball Classic wrapped with key wins; upcoming matchups are set for Archmere, Seaford, Howard and Cape Henlopen.  Delaware LIVE
