COMMUNITY NEWS

  • BVSPCA hosts a partnered 'pick your price' pet adoption event from Feb. 3-8 for adult dogs and older cats. Tailgate adoptions take place at Dover PetSmart (Feb. 6, 6:30 p.m.) and Petco Dover (Feb. 7), with a Puppy Bowl XXII watch party on Feb. 8 at Dover AFB’s USO Center.  Coast TV
  • Gov. Matt Meyer and the Office of Women’s Advancement & Advocacy announced that nominations for the 2026 Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame and the She’s On Her Way Awards are open with forms available online until midnight on April 2 (the induction ceremony will take place in fall).  Coast TV
  • Dover’s i.g. Burton Toyota dealership announced a $25,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware today to support youth programs and strengthen local community ties.  Bay to Bay News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced a $17.85-million settlement agreement with Lannett and Bausch, making residents who purchased generic drugs between May 2009 and Dec. 2019 eligible for compensation. The settlement is part of a 48-state coalition effort to address price manipulation + enforce antitrust reforms.  WGMD
  • DRBA announced that the rescheduled online public hearing for proposed Cape May-Lewes Ferry fare changes will be held on Monday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m.—the proposal includes modest increases for vehicles and decreases for families to ease travel costs.  WDEL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware mandated that health insurers cover preventive prostate cancer screenings for at-risk men (following American Cancer Society guidelines); the law took effect Jan. 1, and Bayhealth, coalition leaders, and lawmakers celebrated its launch at the Kent Campus on Jan. 29.  Bay to Bay News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Early College girls' basketball team won 64-43 over Laurel Tuesday night at Henlopen South. Senior Marshay Brown scored 18 points while sophomore Londyn and freshman Ava Brickhouse-Reid made key plays to keep the Hornets unbeaten in the South at 8-0 and 10-4 overall.  Bay to Bay News
  • Downstate coaches were awarded top state Coach of the Year honors at a Monday banquet held at the Modern Maturity Center. Caesar Rodney’s Shaun Strickland received the Class 3A award after leading his team to a 7-4 record while coaches from Indian River, Seaford and Saint Mark’s also earned awards.  Bay to Bay News
  • Dover High beat Smyrna 69-54 Tuesday night after overcoming a 10-point halftime deficit with a solid 18-2 run in the final period, earning its 42nd straight North victory & boosting its playoff push.  Bay to Bay News
  • Smyrna boys’ basketball will play Dover tonight at 6:30 p.m. following a near loss on Jan. 20 + coach Andrew Mears said the team is learning from each close game to build a stronger season.  Bay to Bay News
