COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Delaware Public Archives is hosting Game Night on Feb. 10 at the Research Room on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from 6-8 p.m. Staff from the Archives, First State Heritage Park, and the Delaware Historical Society will lead board games that highlight Delaware history (free registration is appreciated).  Bay to Bay News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pizza Hut will close 250 locations nationwide in early 2026 as part of a strategic review by Yum! Brands, which includes its nine Delaware sites such as two in Dover. The chain will focus on modernizing its menu (final closure list is pending).  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dover Public Library offers three free Black History Month programs at Multi-Purpose Room A (Loockerman Plaza). On Feb. 11, 19 and 25, residents can explore the Harlem Renaissance, learn about African American inventions, and hear historian Sly Woolford discuss Rev. Jason.  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two DSU students, Trinity Kamami and Brontë E. Pepper-Hicks, were chosen as Legislative Fellows with the Delaware General Assembly. They will work with state lawmakers during the 2026 session to gain policy experience and insight.  Delaware State University
  • Dr. Eleanor Kiesel from DSU’s Wesley College of Health and Behavioral Sciences has been named a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for International Education Administrators and will spend two weeks in France + Senegal this spring to explore academic partnerships and new research ideas.  Delaware State University
  • State Senator Eric Buckson is leading a discussion on Delaware’s school accountability practices by questioning the SAT’s role in measuring student success. He argues that while the test helps college-bound students, it does not capture skills needed for technical careers + he calls on leaders to modernize the system.  WGMD
  • On Feb. 5, the Joint Finance Committee reviewed fiscal 2027 budget proposals from the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, and Del Tech, with leaders discussing capital projects, athletic upgrades, and workforce expansion initiatives plus emphasizing equitable funding needs. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Freezing temperatures have partly frozen Delaware Bay, leading to several ferry cancellations and forcing pilots to use alternate routes at the Indian River Inlet. Ferry officials report that while warming has opened more water, they warn that refreezing could create further navigation challenges.  Coast TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware's Office of Budget Management has proposed that the state stop covering GLP-1s for weight loss to curb rising healthcare costs for current and retired employees. The change may save up to $50.8 million in fiscal year 2027 (diabetes treatment costs remain high).  Delaware Public Media
