COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials say Dover will host its canceled parade on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. along Federal Street to the Duncan Center (theme: A Hundred Thousand Welcomes), featuring food trucks and honoring Agape Body Piercing owners as Grand Marshals with the Irish Society of Delmarva and coordinator Ronald Barisano.  WDEL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dover is set to bring back its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 14 after last year’s cancellation. The parade will start at 1 p.m. on Federal Street and pass key spots as Grand Marshals Codi Canasa & Tabby Proud are honored with food trucks nearby.  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tameka Mays, a paraprofessional at William Penn High School in New Castle, has been elected as the new president of the Delaware State Education Association with a three-year term starting July 15. She will focus on higher educator pay, addressing staff shortages (from teachers to support roles) and advocating for fair school funding.  Bay to Bay News
  • University of Delaware president Dr. Carlson said the missing slavery study 'Legacies of Enslavement and Dispossession' will be restored after a month-long delay noted at a Feb. 5 Assembly finance meeting. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNREC reopened Indian River Bay for clamming and shellfish harvest yesterday after a 21-day closure prompted by a Jan. 15 sewage release from Millsboro’s system — harvests for crabs, conch, and finfish remain unchanged and oysters from Rehoboth Bay are still safe.  WGMD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congresswoman Sarah McBride advanced an amendment during a House Science, Space, and Technology Committee markup this week to help NASA share satellite data (HABs) with local partners for predicting and warning against harmful algal blooms that threaten coastal water quality and local economies.  WGMD
  • Berean Community Church in Milford is seeking Kent County’s conditional use approval to expand its campus on Milford Harrington Highway with plans for a new sanctuary, family center, ministry residences, and additional parking. The county planning commission will issue its recommendation on Feb. 12, sending the proposal to Levy Court for further review.  Bay to Bay News
