EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Delaware’s Poetry Out Loud state finals will take place Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Smyrna Opera House, where ten high school students will compete for a chance to advance to the National Finals in Washington, D.C. The event is free with limited seating available via livestream. Coast TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Kent County Regional Planning Commission unanimously approved proposals on Feb. 12 for a National Guard readiness center, Berean Community Church expansion and additional projects including a micro-brewery and two-lot subdivision. Levy Court will review the church expansion plan on Feb. 24. Bay to Bay News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Miles Beach, presented by Visit Delaware, will return to the Dover Motor Speedway Fan Zone during NASCAR All-Star Weekend from May 15 to 17. The free, family-friendly attraction will feature live sea lion shows, a live shark display and a stingray experience with food, games and live entertainment. Coast TV
- ➤ Dover High won 59-55 Saturday afternoon against Cape Henlopen for its 46th straight North contest and third North title, and the Senators will host Seaford in the Henlopen Conference championship next Saturday & strong fourth-quarter play set the stage for the final game. Bay to Bay News
- ➤ At Smyrna’s gym on Saturday night, Caesar Rodney High and Laurel ended the dual-meet finals with trophies but did not win state titles. Salesianum clinched the Division I crown with a 59-9 win while Delaware Military defended the Division II title with a 52-17 victory. Bay to Bay News
- ➤ Salesianum and Caesar Rodney advanced to the Division I state finals in the DIAA Wrestling Team Championships on Feb. 17 at Smyrna High gym. The defending champion Salesianum beat Cape Henlopen 40-25 while Caesar Rodney won 41-27 against Smyrna. Delaware Online
- ➤ The Blue Hens won 76–67 at home against the Bears on Saturday (after losing to Missouri State by 18 points earlier) and secured their third consecutive win. Coach Martin Ingelsby said the team plans to host Western Kentucky on Wednesday (as they build renewed focus). Bay to Bay News
- ➤ Wrestling state dual-meet finals will be held in Smyrna on Saturday (2 p.m. Division I semifinals and 6 p.m. finals). Smyrna coach Kent Robinson said his Eagles are excited to return to the Final Four after years away. Bay to Bay News
