- ➤ Last week, Harmony at Kent senior living center evacuated about 90 residents after a burst pipe damaged its fourth floor (no injuries were reported). Residents relocated to sister facilities while emergency responders and nonprofits delivered needed supplies. Delaware LIVE
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Delmarva Power met record heating demand during the extreme cold of December 2025 and January as temperatures ranked among the decade's lowest. The company said its systems worked reliably thanks to heavy investments + careful planning, though higher natural gas usage raised customer bills. Coast TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Delaware Department of Education is seeking sponsors and meal sites for the federally funded Summer Food Service Program in 2026 to provide free meals for children in low-income areas and disabled adults. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Climate Week Delaware addressed state climate challenges at the Chase Center on the Riverfront on Feb. 17, 2026. Panelists + local leaders discussed environmental issues and potential solutions. Delaware Online
- ➤ Three Delaware projects have been awarded $12.5 million in grants + matching funds to support 30 habitat and pollinator projects. Delaware Wild Lands, Red Clay School District and Delaware Nature Society received money for local restoration in Kent County and Wilmington, and new proposals are due by March 26. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ DelDOT announced the Route 1 and Hudson Road/Steamboat Landing Road crossover near Milton will close for three weeks starting Feb. 23 for construction of a new median island and acceleration lane; work runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and motorists should slow in work zones. - ➤ Governor Matt Meyer presented the Order of the First State to five Delawareans recognized for their work in public service (focusing on education, the arts and safety) including Brooks Banta, Ellen Bartholomaus, Dr. Anand Panwalker, Mike Vincent and Bob Vanderhost. WDEL
- ➤ DelDOT announced yesterday the winners of its 5th annual 'Name That Plow' Contest after receiving nearly 300 entries from students statewide. Winners from New Castle, Kent & Sussex counties represent Cedar Lane Early Childhood, Star Hill Elementary and Phillis Wheatley Elementary Schools, acknowledging the work of plow crews during storms. - ➤ Marshay Brown scored 27 points as Early College defeated Woodbridge 60-30 on Tuesday at Henlopen South, keeping the Hornets unbeaten 13-0 in the division.
