CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware museums Lightship Overfalls in Lewes and Hagley Museum & Library have been named among the nation’s best by USA TODAY 10BEST Readers' Choice Awards. The recognition highlights their unique maritime and industrial collections that attract visitors seeking local history.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Vincent Fondong at DSU received a four-year $1.13 million USDA grant to study the Potato Virus Y and its HcPro protein that harms potato crops. His team will use advanced microscopy methods to trace the virus and train several research students (including a postdoctoral scholar).  Delaware State University
  • The Delaware Department of Education’s Charter School Accountability Committee recommended revoking BASSE’s charter for enrollment, financial and organizational issues (a public hearing is set 5 p.m. March 9 at Delaware Technical Community College’s Owens Campus in Georgetown) and decision comes March 19 with closure expected at end of 2025–26.  WGMD
  • ChristianaCare, Bayhealth and PCOM will launch the Delaware Collaborative Clinical Campus in July to offer five third-year rotations in Kent and Sussex counties to strengthen a local health care workforce — training in primary care, OB-GYN and psychiatry to serve underserved areas.  Coast TV

  • Delaware State Auditor Lydia York was honored Tuesday, Feb. 17 with the Blood Bank of Delmarva third annual Dr. Charles Drew Lifesaver Award; the award (named for the pioneer in modern blood banking) recognized her effort to encourage blood donation year-round.  WDEL

  • On Feb. 18, 2026, about 60 Special Olympics Delaware athletes participated in a snowshoeing event at Lums Pond State Park as persistent snow added challenge to the course.  Delaware Online
  • Jerusalem Howard aims to extend his record with 146 wins as he prepares for the Henlopen Conference Tournament starting Friday and a DIAA state title challenge the following weekend.
