COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Councilman Brian Lewis recognized the Dover Fire Department by presenting a Certificate of Recognition on Friday, Feb. 20 to honor its service to the community + the event underscored local pride in the department’s work.  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Caesar Rodney High School won the culinary arts category at the ProStart Student Invitational on Feb. 18 at Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington. The winning team prepared a three-course meal on two Bunsen burners and will advance to the National ProStart Invitational in Baltimore next month.  Delaware Online
  • Parents at Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence have voiced mixed opinions amid a charter review by state education officials. A public hearing will be held on Monday, Mar. 9 at 5 p.m. at the Georgetown campus of Delaware Technical Community College, with a final decision expected on Wednesday, Mar. 19.  Coast TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The state climate office said January was the sixth month of below normal rainfall while forecasting equal chances of varied precipitation over the next three months. Groundwater and streamflow remain low because dense snowfall and frozen ground affected measurements (improvements are expected once the melt occurs).  Bay to Bay News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wilmington-area DMV facility on Hessler Blvd. will reopen March 10 at 8 a.m. for appointments only—after repairs following the fatal ambush of DSP Trooper Matthew Ty Snook in December, walk-in services remain available at other DMV locations.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Delaware Division of Public Health said Nemours Children's Hospital reported a measles exposure Wednesday and is tracing contacts. Exposed individuals and pregnant women are advised to check vaccination status and monitor for symptoms until March 11.  WDEL
  • On Feb. 18, the Delaware Division of Public Health reported a measles exposure at Nemours Children's Hospital emergency department in Wilmington and is tracing contacts to check vaccine status and guide quarantine measures until March 11. Affected individuals are urged to confirm their vaccination and seek care if symptoms develop.  Coast TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dover High will host the Henlopen Conference championship games today, with the boys taking on South champion Seaford at 4 p.m. and the girls pitting Cape Henlopen against Early College at 1 p.m. in Dover (building on a strong legacy).  Bay to Bay News
  • After earning a 19-1 record and finishing as runner-up in 2025, Dover (runner-up in 2025) is the No. 1 seed in the 24-team DIAA Boys Basketball Tournament and one of eight teams with a first-round bye. First-round games set for Feb. 23 will be held on home courts.  Delaware Online
  • Following a dramatic Daytona 500 finish, Dover Motor Speedway sold over 500 tickets in days and is set for NASCAR All-Star Race Weekend. The event runs May 15 to 17 at 1131 N. Dupont Highway and includes the All-Star Race on May 17 at 3 p.m. on FS1.  Delaware LIVE
