COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Crews from Delmarva Power are restoring electricity after Winter Storm Hernando caused widespread damage and outages in Delaware and Maryland. The utility said work is proceeding as the storm continues to affect service areas. Bay to Bay News
- ➤ Due to power outages caused by a snowstorm, the American Red Cross has opened shelters at Dover High School and Sussex Middle School in Georgetown to offer limited services (snacks, warmth and cots) and residents are urged to bring essential items. WDEL
- ➤ Power companies across the peninsula reported over 144,100 customers without power as a blizzard disrupted service early Monday. Utility crews resumed repairs at 8:30 a.m. & expect restoration to take several days with help from Virginia. WBOC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Delmarva Power crews are restoring service after Sunday's storm, which brought down trees and caused outages for roughly 27,000 customers. A warming center is open at Dover High School and teams will work around the clock for several days. WBOC
- ➤ DelDOT crews worked overnight under difficult conditions to clear I-95 and I-495—ensuring access to secondary roads this morning. They addressed fallen trees on fewer than a dozen roads in New Castle County and about 80 in Kent and Sussex counties. WDEL
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The DIAA announced 24 high school teams will compete in the Boys Basketball State Tournament, with the first round starting tomorrow at local high schools at 6:00 p.m. Winners advance to face higher-seeded teams in later rounds. Delaware LIVE
- ➤ The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) announced the 24 teams in the girls' high school basketball state tournament, with first-round games scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26 at local high schools where several rematch contests are set to take place. Delaware LIVE
