COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce is hosting a vote for the Coolest Thing Made in Delaware contest that features 42 products from 37 manufacturers (including advanced energy systems and aerospace technology). Voting closes today, with bracket rounds set for early March.  WDEL
  • Governor Matt Meyer (D) announced that statewide service projects will mark 302 Day on Monday, March 2 in tribute to the state’s 250th anniversary; Dover residents can join a litter cleanup on Port Mahon Road, and reentry support and library card sign-ups will be available statewide.  Coast TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Delaware Online/The News Journal extended the nomination deadline for the Top Workplaces awards; companies with 35+ employees can be nominated until April 10. Public, private, nonprofit and government employers will take a short survey for a potential honor in fall.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, culinary students at the Food Bank of Delaware in Milford took a live midterm exam featuring scrapple during RAPA Scrapple’s 100th anniversary celebrations. The 14 week training program prepares them for careers in food service, and Gov. Matt Meyer proclaimed February RAPA Scrapple Centennial Month.  Coast TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute urges beachgoers and boaters to keep 150 ft from returning seals and to keep dogs leashed so the animals can rest undisturbed in Delaware’s waterways. Residents should call the 24-hour hotline at (302) 228-5029 if they spot one.  WGMD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware State Parks fee season begins March 1 and visitors will need to pay fees to enter parks including Cape Henlopen, Lums Pond and Brandywine Creek (covering 27,000 acres) as annual passes become more economical after a 10-year freeze.  Delaware Online

SPORTS NEWS

  • The DIAA has moved the start of both boys and girls state basketball tournaments to next week after Tuesday's schedule change, aiming to ensure equitable play and safety amid recent weather issues. Girls begin Monday, March 2, while boys start Tuesday, March 3.  Delaware LIVE
