COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Do More 24 Delaware starts tomorrow at 6 p.m. as women-led nonprofits work to raise funds and support local community programs — a tradition honoring female leadership and inspiring further giving.  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • A look back at Delaware and nearby towns in the 1990s shows local photos of boardwalk fun + sandcastle competitions and community fairs; Dover residents can relive nostalgic moments from events that helped shape our regional culture.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday, March 7, spellers will compete at the Delaware Regional Spelling Bee at Del Tech Terry Campus in Dover—arrival begins at 8 a.m. with a program at 8:30 and spelling at 9. In Princess Anne, Maryland Eastern Shore’s Bee starts at 10 a.m.  WGMD
  • The Capital Board of Education narrowly approved a plan to merge geography with political science and economics with financial literacy in a 3-2 vote. The new course changes will start next school year, though some members worry about losing a 9th grade world history class (which may complicate scheduling).  Delaware Public Media
  • The Delaware Department of Education released its long term strategic plan for 2025 to 2028 Tuesday. It sets targets to raise third grade reading to 53%, early education access to 40%, graduation to 91% and lower absenteeism to 13% by 2028 (progress will be tracked publicly).  WDEL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents filing their 2025 tax returns should note that federal returns are due April 15 and Delaware returns are due April 30, while an extension until Oct. 15 is available for federal taxes. The IRS advises filing electronically for a quicker refund (usually within 21 days).  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • An addiction recovery nonprofit launches services in Sussex County with an open house tomorrow in Georgetown, while a health equity summit is set at Dover’s Rollins Center on March 18. Later this spring, Sheila Bravo will step down as president of Delaware’s nonprofit alliance.  Delaware Online
  • Testimony at the Joint Finance Committee hearing on the Governor’s FY 2027 budget highlighted concerns that Medicaid funding may not be enough to support private day nurses and home care workers needed by people with disabilities. Advocates stressed that higher reimbursement rates are essential to retain caregivers.  WDEL

  • Rita’s is hosting a free 6oz Italian Ice giveaway on Friday, March 20 at select locations, unveiling a mystery PEEPS flavor, while Dairy Queen will offer a free small vanilla cone on Thursday, March 19 with a $1 donation option for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.  Delaware Online

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers plan a DuPont Plaza shopping center on a nearly 10-acre lot along Route 13 between Tim Hortons and Citizens Bank in Dover. If approved, the project will anchor a Tractor Supply store and add three retail buildings, including a restaurant, to boost local shopping options.  WBOC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2026 DIAA Girls State Basketball Tournament began yesterday with eight first-round games, and winning teams now face second-round matchups today (6:00 p.m.), with teams like Tatnall set to meet Sanford and Archmere traveling to Caravel.  Delaware LIVE
