CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware State University alumna Shy Taylor ’14 served as a red carpet host at the 57th NAACP Image Awards today, interviewing celebrities and industry leaders at one of entertainment’s top events. She credited her DSU experience with building the confidence to connect with stars on the red carpet.  Delaware State University
  • A sports betting site ranked over 250 Irish pubs for St. Patrick’s Day and recommended Delaware spots for their drink and food value. Murph’s Irish Pub in Wilmington (rated 4.5 on Google, $4.50 pint) and McGlynn’s Pub (with a Dover location) were noted for their affordable offerings.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware students earned 11,218 qualifying AP scores of 3 or higher, saving families an estimated $18.4 million in college tuition costs. The new law (House Bill 116, signed in 2024) requires public colleges to grant credit for qualifying scores, boosting access to advanced coursework statewide.  Coast TV
  • Parents, educators and supporters of the Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence met Monday in Georgetown to speak at a public hearing where state officials reviewed concerns about the school’s enrollment, finances and operations. A board member said the school has since stabilized its operations.  Coast TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware law allows electric bikes to be ridden on streets, highways and bike lanes without requiring a license + riders under 16 are not allowed, while electric scooters must be DMV-tagged and used by those 16 or older, with a $100 fine in Newark for improper sidewalk use.  Delaware Online
  • Governor Meyer returned from a trade mission to India with business and academic leaders to bolster Delaware’s green energy and research partnerships. Versogen is teaming with an Indian renewable energy firm while REnP plans a new facility in Delaware (site visit set for April, manufacturing starting in 2027).  WDEL
  • On March 9, 2026, a U.S. Army carry team honored the remains of Maj. Sorffly Davius at Dover Air Force Base after he died on March 6 in Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Davius, from Queens, N.Y., was remembered with dignity + his legacy endures among family and comrades.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, as warmer weather returns, Delaware’s dangerous critters including copperhead snakes, timber rattlers, black widows and ticks are emerging in areas like woodpiles and marshlands—residents are urged to be cautious and seek medical help if bitten.  Delaware Online
