COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Delaware launched a new round of the Delmarva Power Customer Relief Fund to help eligible electric customers pay their utility bills. Applications opened March 9 and will remain available until funds are exhausted.  Coast TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Delaware State Police said the Coast Guard led the response on March 10 at 10:30 a.m. to a trash barge fire near the Delaware Bay - several agencies including Delaware Natural Resources and Environmental Control and local fire companies attended the scene, with updates pending.  WDEL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Delaware's long-standing role as a corporate haven is under threat as uncertain court rulings and rising legal costs prompt companies to rethink their legal homes. Texas and Nevada are revising laws and incentives to attract businesses seeking more predictable legal climates (a shift that could impact where companies incorporate next).  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • Milton Theatre is raising funds to purchase Quayside land as its owner liquidates the asset, giving the theatre 30 days to act. It has raised nearly ($70K) and will stage a free local-band concert series from May 21 to Sept. 17 along with additional St. Patrick’s Day fundraisers.  Delaware Public Media
  • Alabama Shakes announced their 2026 reunion tour starting April 16 in Richmond, Va, which will include festival stops and a collaboration with Zach Bryan; they will perform in Dover on Sept. 19 where tickets start at $185.  Delaware Online

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delaware Gov. Meyer led a trade mission to India that secured partnerships, including a green hydrogen agreement and potential investments in a manufacturing facility set to open in 2027. The delegation’s follow-up work continues with planned site visits and further international engagement later this spring.  Coast TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware State University faculty represented the College of Education and Human Development at two national conferences in Arlington, Virginia where they shared research on AI in teaching, equity in teacher preparation, and school partnerships. Their collaborative work included Ed.D. student Darren Rainey's contribution to enhancing professional dialogue.  Delaware State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Department of Insurance said Tuesday that recent property reassessments will not drive up insurance premiums because rates are based on a home’s replacement cost (not county tax assessments). Homeowners are encouraged to review policies and ask how their replacement cost is calculated.  Coast TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jan Conant, president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Delaware, launched a pilot project with Easterseals to produce and deliver fidget blankets for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients in Dover.   • Brian Frazee, president and CEO of the Delaware Healthcare Association, said Senate Bill 1 would cut hospital jobs, reduce primary care access, and slash over $165 million in services, and the group plans to work with lawmakers to safeguard care amid rising demand.  Bay to Bay News
