COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families in Kent County spent today cleaning up after strong winds damaged properties in Felton and Camden-Wyoming. Residents reported broken garage doors and flipped campers (no injuries reported) as they prepare for repairs over the next few days.  WBOC
  • House of David Milford DE Inc. released its 2025 Impact Report showing the nonprofit delivered 1,356 meals and provided essential food, clothing, and housing resources in Sussex and Kent. The report outlines plans to expand emergency housing, community meals and youth arts programs in 2026.  Coast TV
  • Linford (Lin) Lockwood, 91, a Navy veteran and General Foods employee, died Friday, March 13 at his home. His funeral is set for Friday, March 20 at Pippin Funeral Home (119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue) with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery.  Bay to Bay News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNREC will start spring mosquito spraying on March 20 from helicopters in southern Sussex County and later in Kent and New Castle counties through mid-April. The effort treats larval mosquitoes in forested wetlands to lower adult populations; residents may contact DNREC for spray schedules (New Castle, Kent, Sussex).  Coast TV
  • A potential tornado warning was issued late March 16 over eastern Delaware when winds reached 55 mph, prompting questions if the state is now in tornado season; in the past 30 years, only two April tornadoes have been recorded, including a deadly EF3 on April Fools' Day, 2023.  Delaware Online
  • Severe weather overnight near Felton in Kent County caused significant damage to homes as a tornado warning was in effect. Neighbors reported a playset, barn roof, and fences being damaged and officials have not confirmed if a tornado touched down.  WBOC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bayhealth CEO Terry Murphy warned that Senate Bill 1 would impose a 250% Medicare cap on local care, risking up to $413 million in hospital funding and nearly 4,000 jobs. Lawmakers will soon debate the measure as efforts continue to protect patient care.  Bay to Bay News
