ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Central Atlantic reached $4.09 per gallon (EIA) on April 6, rising from $3.90 the previous week as traders factor in higher demand and market risks from Middle East tensions. Analysts expect prices to climb another 20 to 30 cents per gallon soon.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Delaware broke ground on a Youth Enrichment Center on Forrest Avenue after securing $455,000 in federal funds plus matching state support. The new facility, located minutes from several schools, will offer tutoring + cooking classes and graphic design programs to benefit local youth.  Delaware Public Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Middletown resident Terrell A. Williams said Delaware roads are dangerous after a Reason Foundation report showed high fatality rates on rural routes (police patrols are largely absent). He urged local officials to boost enforcement and improve safety measures.  Bay to Bay News
  • DNREC has begun assessing wastewater + drinking water systems in manufactured home communities to gather data for future upgrades. The project, which started in late 2025 and includes field visits and outreach, has identified over 170 communities so far.  WGMD

HEALTH NEWS

  • Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia + ChristianaCare partnered on April 1 to expand pediatric services for families at Newark and Cecil campuses, reducing travel needs to Philadelphia; the move will initially focus on consultations for newborn and emergency care.  Delaware Public Media
  • Wawa has recalled its 16oz iced tea lemon, diet lemonade, and fruit punch drinks in Dover due to a possible undeclared milk allergen. The FDA confirms affected products were removed from local stores and destroyed, and customers with milk allergies risk serious reactions if they consume them.  Bay to Bay News

  • Delaware Online High School hosted its Baseball and Softball Media Day on March 18 at Frawley Stadium, with 54 teams gathering and players sharing what excites them in school. The final 132 photos were released today plus sponsors provided free lunch and support.  Delaware Online
