ECONOMY NEWS

  • A GasBuddy report shows Delaware drivers fill up cheapest on Mondays while Friday has the highest prices, saving 4 to 9 cents per gallon. AAA data from April 14 show New Castle County holds the lowest average, and Sussex County exceeds the national rate (AAA).  Delaware Online

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNREC will mark Earth Day with activities at state parks from April 18 to April 26. Events include guided hikes, pollinator planting, and beach cleanups at sites such as First State Heritage Park and Bellevue State Park (call ahead to register) so community members can help preserve Delaware’s natural resources.  WGMD
  • Tuesday, the EPA and Delaware Department of Agriculture renewed their agreement to boost sustainable farming and improve water quality throughout the state. The pact will increase funding+training for conservation efforts and expand outreach to support local farmers.  Coast TV

  • Delaware experts Barbara Snapp Danberg and Nicholas Tyler advise residents to review and update estate plans during tax season as financial records reveal key changes in life and business. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Division of Small Business launched a mapping tool today to show 61 eligible census tracts for Opportunity Zone 2.0 nominations. Local developers + officials have until May 15 to submit nominations that will re-designate zones for investments starting Jan. 1.  WGMD
  • Drivers can now use the northbound Route 1 overpass above Route 16 as part of a project costing over $40 million to improve safety at a busy intersection. The Delaware Department of Transportation began the upgrade in 2022 and it is set to be completed this summer.  Coast TV

  • Delaware lawmakers introduced House Bill 337 to require more folic acid in corn masa flour — a key ingredient in local tortillas — to help reduce the risk of spina bifida.  Bay to Bay News
  • DART First State will offer free rides on all statewide bus and paratransit services on Apr. 22 as part of its annual Try Transit event to boost greener travel; Delaware Transportation Secretary Shanté Hastings said the initiative aims to reduce reliance on personal vehicles (gas prices remain high).  WBOC
