CULTURE NEWS

  • On April 23, the 14-ft (7,500-lb) Caesar Rodney statue left storage in New Castle and is now traveling on I-95 to Washington, DC, where it will be installed at Freedom Plaza on April 25.  Delaware Online
  • Tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 25, the Milton Theatre (110 Union St.) will host the April Fools Festival: Showers of Laughter with stand-up comedians performing from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Bay to Bay News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delaware’s unemployment rate held steady at 5.4% in February, matching January. However, there were 27,900 unemployed state-wide – 1.1 points higher than a year ago – with some counties, including Dover, showing a drop from January while others saw increases.  Delaware Public Media
  • Gas prices eased as the national average dropped 6 cents to $4.03 in the last week & Delaware now averages $3.87 today, with falling crude oil prices below $100 helping to reduce pump costs as market conditions remain variable.  WGMD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 13, about 40 DSU students visited the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center to observe a live criminal trial and hear a discussion led by Zafyr K. Ahmad + Vaughn Bond and Chief Thompson, which provided firsthand insight into courtroom procedures and law enforcement roles.  Delaware State University

FINANCE NEWS

  • The Delaware Senate passed two banking modernization bills on Thursday afternoon that update state laws for digital assets — expanding bank authority and establishing a licensing framework for stablecoin issuers — and the measures now head to the House committee.  WGMD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DNREC reminds drivers to prepare their vehicles for permitted beach access as warm weather nears, advising them to attend driving clinics and use required equipment to avoid tow costs. Officials recommend keeping speeds between 15 and 20 mph on marked areas for safety.  Coast TV
