COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Farmers markets and farm stands across Delaware will open later this weekend and into early May to offer fresh, local produce and goods. CULTURE NEWS

  • Milford Garden Club at Mispillion Art League is hosting the 'Welcome to My Garden Flower Show' on Thursday, June 11 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The free community event will feature garden displays for local visitors to enjoy.  Bay to Bay News
  • Local author John Riddle and his grandsons co-wrote a new book about family baseball and life lessons learned from neighborhood games & share a story of teamwork and resilience that inspires families across local ballfields.  Delaware LIVE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • University of Delaware researchers will share study results on offshore wind energy perceptions using surveys and small group discussions to examine community challenges; the workshop will take place on Thursday, May 7 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Milford Public Library in Milford with free childcare and refreshments offered.  Bay to Bay News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Agriculture is inviting applications for its Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, offering over $400,000+ in funding to boost local specialty crop competitiveness including fruits, vegetables, dried fruits, tree nuts and nursery crops. Eligible farmers, schools, government agencies and nonprofits must apply by May 18.  Delaware Public Media
  • A bill moving through Dover may raise fees for small businesses to generate over $140 million a year for state services — some owners fear higher costs could lead to increased prices for customers. The measure has cleared the House and now heads to the Senate.  WDEL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware confirmed its first Chronic Wasting Disease case in a white-tailed deer in Sussex County when Tuesday (Apr. 28) sample tested positive, and a second result is pending confirmation. Wildlife biologists advised hunters to dispose of carcasses properly in the emerging CWD management zone.  Delaware Public Media
