- ➤ Bill Vernon was named President of Draper Media effective May 1 after serving as vice president since December 2024. He built the Delmarva Sports Network (a 24/7 local sports channel) and now oversees seven TV and 12 radio stations in the region. Coast TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Delaware has enforced an annual open burning ban from May 1 through Sept. 30 to reduce pollutants that harm air quality. Cooking fires, recreational campfires, and ceremonial bonfires that use safe fuels remain permitted. WGMD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced that the $7.4-billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler Family is now legally effective and will net Delaware over $27-million in a lump sum deposit to its Prescription Opioid Settlement Fund — the deal also bars the Sacklers from selling opioids in the U.S. WGMD
- ➤ DelDOT launched a new Electronic Speed Safety Program in the Churchmans Marsh work zone on I-95. The 21-day warning ends May 22 & drivers speeding past 55 mph will incur a $20 base fine when fines begin May 23; the bridge rehabilitation project continues until mid-2027. Delaware Online

- ➤ Myatt Snider will drive a tribute car honoring fallen trooper Ty Snook at the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series BetRivers 200 on Saturday, May 16 at the Monster Mile.
