Burton BMW of Milford held a free electric vehicle education event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where the public could test drive vehicles and ask questions, and MJ Lofland, Vice President & COO, said customers should choose their vehicle type instead of facing a state mandate.  Coast TV

  • Delaware State Police investigated a drive-by shooting on Samuel Paynter Drive in Rodney Village in Dover just before 5 a.m. Saturday — a vehicle fired multiple gunshots before driving off — and no one was injured.  WGMD

  • The Dewey Business Partnership is hosting its 14th annual Arts and Fun Fest in Dewey Beach on May 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.—nearly 50 local vendors and artists will offer crafts, food, and live music as families enjoy spring activities on Dickerson Street.  Coast TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware Public Archives unveiled two new historical markers on its grounds on May 3 that are lighter than previous designs at about 165 pounds and display the Great State Seal of Delaware—details that underscore the state’s rich heritage. Director Stephen Marz noted the Archives now welcomes submissions for new marker designs and will seek funding to create and install additional markers.  Delaware Public Media
  • DelDOT announced that starting Monday, May 12th, lane closures will occur on Kenton Road between Pearsons Corner Road and Central Church Road in Dover for road widening work that includes a new turn lane to serve the Nobles Pond development—motorists will face flagging operations Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the affected southbound lane.  WBOC
  • Gov. Meyer established the Office of Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety on Thursday with an executive order to help state agencies and community groups combat rising gun violence. The office will serve as the central coordinating body under the Department of Safety and Homeland Security — working to strengthen measures against domestic violence and firearm-related deaths.  Delaware Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts have warned that H5N1, a bird flu virus, has spread widely among animals, leading to the culling of over 400,000 chickens in Delaware since February and impacts on dairy herds and poultry across the country. Nationwide, more than 70 human cases and one death have been reported (with one probable case in Delaware), prompting calls for improved animal surveillance and biosecurity measures.  Delaware Online
