- ➤ DSU’s oldest living alum, Susan Young Browne, celebrated her 108th birthday on May 2 at the Harvest House at Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Dover, where over 130 locals joined community leaders to honor her long legacy in education and service. Delaware State University
- ➤ Three local families with 100+ years of farming history were honored on April 16 at the Delaware Agricultural Museum during their induction into the Delaware Century Farm Program; the families come from Milford, Smyrna, and Harrington. Bay to Bay News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, the General Assembly will review Senate Bill 302 at the Senate Education Committee to update public school funding with changes that include base, opportunity, and operational approaches for teacher ratios and learner support (including low-income and multilingual programs). A second measure would make the Public Education Funding Commission permanent. WDEL
- ➤ DelDOT held its 7th Annual Bridge Design Competition at Polytech High School on May 1, featuring 130 teams and 397 students from 27 schools. Winners in middle school, 9th and 10th grade, and 11th and 12th grade received scholarships donated by event sponsors. Coast TV

- ➤ DNREC will hold its first community meeting on Wednesday, May 13 at Trap Pond State Park to discuss the detection of chronic wasting disease in Sussex County deer (virtual attendance is available) with waived entrance fees from 6 to 8 p.m. Coast TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two new bills would let families register for summer camps starting Jan. 1 and allow YMCA camps to use national accreditation rules rather than state licensure, making enrollment fairer for all children. Dover lawmakers say the changes will reduce delays in the current system. WDEL
- ➤ Today, the Delaware Senate Health & Social Services Committee will review Senate Bill 22 that aims to expand insurance coverage for mental health and substance use care while easing prior authorization requirements statewide. The bill could widen access to evidence-based behavioral health treatment. Coast TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ ChristianaCare filed a Notice of Intent to build a new healthcare campus in Camden to expand services in Kent County. If approved by state regulators, the 38,000 sqft facility (including a health center and neighborhood hospital) will open in late 2028 or early 2029 and create 83 jobs. WDEL
- ➤ Delaware lawmakers are considering a bill to restrict energy drink sales to anyone under 18 — the measure would bar drinks with at least 100 mg caffeine per 8 oz and impose fines of $50 to $100 on retailers, pending review by the Health and Human Development Committee. WBOC
