EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A team of Delaware State students won $40,000 at the Venture Innovation Summit 2.0 on DSU’s Dover campus in April after pitching PrizeChips (an AI chip design platform that speeds up semiconductor design). The funding will help make semiconductor technology more accessible for HBCU students. Delaware State University
- ➤ Two education funding reform bills held their first hearing at Leg Hall yesterday and now head to the Senate Finance Committee. One bill would launch a hybrid funding model increasing per pupil spending in the 2027-2028 school year while the other codifies the Public Education Funding Commission. Delaware Public Media
- ➤ An ACLU letter from May 5 warned Delaware schools have long underfunded multi-language learners and urged lawmakers to boost staffing and translation support to meet constitutional obligations — potential legal action could follow if funding remains short. Coast TV
- ➤ Following a meeting last week by the Public Education Funding Commission, the Senate Education Committee released two bills on Tuesday, May 5+ the proposals aim to change the public school funding system and update support for schools statewide. Bay to Bay News

- ➤ The Delaware Office of Highway Safety launches the Click it or Ticket campaign, running May through June to boost seat belt use and motorcycle awareness as warmer weather increases roadway travel.
