EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware State University has received $543,000 from the War Research and Education Program to buy a sputter deposition system for its new Research on Nanomaterial-based Integrated Circuits and Electronics center. DSU Principal Investigator Dr. Mukti Rana said the system will support federal projects and student training.  Delaware State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 304, the Safe Schools Sentry Act, to allow trained staff with valid concealed carry permits to carry firearms at private schools under strict training and reporting requirements; the bill is now under review by the Senate Judiciary Committee.  WGMD
  • Delaware is considering converting the Living and Learning Commons near DSU into a homeless shelter to offer housing, meals, and healthcare as part of its strategy to reduce homelessness. Dover officials will meet with leaders next week to discuss planning steps to secure a deal by the end of June.  WBOC
  • Residents of Pintail Pointe, northwest of Frederica, told the Kent County Regional Planning Commission on Thursday, May 7 that the proposed 52-duplex project Pintail Crossing would be too dense for their neighborhood — they worry it may change the area’s character.  Bay to Bay News
