CULTURE NEWS

  • Ballet Theatre of Dover will perform Classics & More on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The show features classic and modern dance with local talent and guest dancer Isaac Hollis of Philadelphia Ballet (partnering Dover High School senior Lauren Miles).  Bay to Bay News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delmarva Power saved customers $3.6 million in natural gas bills after settling a multi-year federal pipeline rate case that would have raised transportation costs. Customers (using an average of 56 cc per month) will see about $1.52 monthly savings, and the settlement blocks further rate hikes until Aug. 31.  WGMD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Pietro Sasso, an associate professor at Delaware State University (in Dover), earned two national honors for his higher education research and leadership by receiving the NASPA TAMKC Award and being named a 2026 Darden Fellow. They recognize his work to boost equity for multiracial and transracial adoptees.  Delaware State University
  • Delaware State University junior Tori McLeary earned the American Legion Spirit of Service Award today for volunteering over 400 hours at local programs including more than 250 hours at the Airman's Attic; she balances active-duty service + accounting studies while giving back to the community.  Delaware State University
  • Local school board elections resulted in three longtime members not returning for next school year. Richard Forsten (Appoquinimink), Vic Leonard (Red Clay), and Shawn Brittingham (Delmar) lost their seats as voters opted for new leadership.  WDEL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware lawmakers are considering a new tax credit that provides up to $15,000 for overtime earnings under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. The measure, introduced by Senator Bryant Richardson and Representative Bryan Shupe, will phase out for incomes over $125,000 individually and $250,000 jointly.  WDEL
  • Governor Matt Meyer announced two healthcare bills aimed at lowering costs and expanding charity care for Delaware residents. The legislation, introduced Tuesday, requires hospitals to offer free or discounted care up to certain income thresholds + restricts for-profit control.  Coast TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Alek Lee, co-leader of the Delaware Youth Rare Disease Initiative, says a proposed bill could let Delaware cover biomarker tests that help doctors tailor treatment for cancer and Alzheimer’s. Senate Bill 120, sponsored by state lawmakers, would take effect Dec. 31 if it passes soon.  Bay to Bay News

  • DSU students Sanaiyah Baines-Butler and Tia Jarvis earned third place and a $5,000 award in the 2026 Coca-Cola HBCU Sports Production Grant competition for their documentary First to the Mat — they will attend the Sports Emmy Awards in New York later this month to connect with industry professionals.  Delaware State University
