  • The Scoop on Loockerman, a youth-run ice cream shop on W. Loockerman Street in downtown Dover, will reopen on May 15 from 3 to 6 p.m. and offer free ice cream, hot dogs, and music — part of a social enterprise giving at-risk youth job opportunities and life skills — through NeighborGood Partners.  Delaware LIVE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tuesday's Delaware school board elections saw voters in 11 districts choose revised boards, including a race where Dover High School senior Jordan Davis ran against Vickie Pendleton. In Capital, Davis lost his race — and a former New Castle County Council President in Brandywine faced a tight contest — with wins also coming from candidates in Appoquinimink and Smyrna.  WDEL

  • The state Senate voted unanimously on May 13 to add interfering with a school bus's operations as a disorderly conduct offense amid a rise in incidents — the proposal now heads to the House for further consideration.  Bay to Bay News
  • The Delaware House will debate a Senate bill on Tuesday that bans Red Dye 40 in school meals and competitive foods — the law starts immediately and gives a one-year planning period for schools to prepare for full implementation by mid-2026.  Coast TV
  • Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen delivered his State of the City message at Monday’s City Council meeting and said the city will work to become cleaner, safer, and more beautiful by tackling issues like affordable housing, homelessness, substance abuse, and gang violence—Council members also voted Fred Neil as the new Council President and urged residents to get involved by voting and supporting local schools and businesses.  Delaware Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware is facing an ongoing overdose crisis as state leaders have not set up plans to expand treatment services and affordable housing.
