COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Vietnam nurse who served during 1967-68 will address veterans and the public at 2 p.m. Monday, May 25 at the Kent County Veterans event on Memorial Day — spotlighting her Vietnam service and honoring our local heroes.  Bay to Bay News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • New state data show 38 roadway deaths in 2026 with 7 in Kent and 12 in Sussex, and despite most victims being local residents, state officials will review highway safety measures at next week’s Road to Zero meeting in Washington, D.C. to curb speeding & dangerous intersections.  WBOC

CULTURE NEWS

  • VIP tickets are now on sale for Dover Con, a family-friendly indoor/outdoor pop-culture festival set for Saturday, June 13 in Dover. The VIP upgrade offers reserved parking, exclusive access to a fan space at the Schwartz Center for the Arts, snacks, and collectible items for $50 each.  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sen. Laura Sturgeon and Rep. Kim Williams backed changes to improve reading instruction and raise educator salaries — introducing a hybrid funding model that supports flexible use of funds for targeted groups. The reforms aim to address teacher shortages and boost student outcomes in schools with implementation starting in fiscal 2027.  Bay to Bay News
  • A Harvard-Stanford report finds Delaware public schools have struggled with reading and math proficiency since 2013 despite increased funding and new reforms. The study intensifies calls for targeted changes to support student recovery and future workforce readiness.  Delaware LIVE
  • A national Education Scorecard report showed Delaware ranked 4th in math and 14th in reading recovery as chronic absenteeism fell from 24.7% in 2022 to 16.6% in 2025 — highlighting progress though scores still lag pre-pandemic levels.   • After meeting with Delaware State Housing Authority director Matthew Heckles on Thursday, May 14, Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen said an agreement to open the Hope Center temporary housing facility is near finalization.  Bay to Bay News
  • Delaware home care advocates met at Legislative Hall in Dover on Advocacy Day to seek higher Medicaid reimbursement rates aimed at boosting wages and retaining caregivers. Governor Matt Meyer signed a law easing background check requirements to help families access in-home services.  WBOC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dover Motor Speedway hosts three NASCAR races this weekend with the Truck series starting today at 5 p.m., Saturday's O'Reilly series at 4 p.m., and Sunday's Cup series at 1 p.m. The races (featuring a revamped format) will test driver skills on the famed Monster Mile.  WDEL
