  • Since launching in Delaware in 2023, nonprofit Free Bikes 4 Kidz Delaware has donated over 1,300 refurbished bicycles and helmets to children through 30 local partner organizations. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dover’s mayor Robin Christiansen said officials are close to agreeing to open a state-run Hope Center temporary housing facility in the building that houses Delaware State University’s Living and Learning Commons on North Dupont Highway. The project is one of 15 designed to improve healthcare in Kent and Sussex counties.  Bay to Bay News

  • At Legislative Hall on Thursday in Dover, home care advocates and caregivers urged lawmakers to raise Medicaid reimbursement rates so agencies can offer higher wages amid a growing caregiver shortage, while a new law easing repeated background checks may help retain workers and support families.  WDEL
  • Delaware Farm Bureau will host a free Ag Mental Health Seminar at the Delaware Agriculture Museum on May 27 at 5:30 p.m. Experts from UD will offer strategies to cope with stress, burnout and depression, providing resources to help those facing mental health challenges in the farming community.  Delaware Public Media
  • ChristianaCare is partnering with software startup DECODR, Inc. to boost gene-editing research as DECODR sets up shop in Newark (the tool quickly identifies CRISPR edits and has already processed over 1.7 million files).  WDEL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dover Motor Speedway hosts NASCAR All-Star Weekend today with an All-Star exhibition that replaces the traditional points race. Longtime fans have noted a shift in the crowd while officials say strong ticket sales point to a promising racing future.  WBOC
  • Kyle Busch won his record fifth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series trophy at Dover Motor Speedway on May 15. The win marked his 13th overall trophy at the track and showed his strong performance in racing.  Bay to Bay News
