COMMUNITY NEWS

  • As prices rise and more residents turn to food pantries, food bank organizers and advocates met outside Legislative Hall on Tuesday to press lawmakers for increased food assistance funding. They said rising costs for groceries and gas are stressing both families and providers (and urging action).  WDEL
  • AAA predicts nearly 130,000 Delawareans will travel over 50 miles from Thursday through Monday for Memorial Day weekend. Roadwork in Sussex County is paused starting Friday, and drivers are advised to avoid peak times on Bay Bridge and local routes (Routes 50, 1, 113, 13 and 404) for smoother travel.  WGMD
  • Local painter and writer Jordan McClements, whose art on display at Dover Art League and Studio B Milford highlights the overdose crisis, urges Gov. Matt Meyer to establish a Hope Center to provide detox and treatment for people facing homelessness in Dover. He calls for immediate community action.  Bay to Bay News

  • Delaware farms now offer community-supported agriculture memberships that provide households weekly boxes of seasonal produce with options like eggs, dairy, and baked goods from local pick-up spots in New Castle and across the state. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Delaware is facing its first severe drought since 2002 with 5 inches less rain in 2026, affecting water quality and crop yields while experts urge residents to conserve water (using rain barrels) even as Newark and Wilmington reservoirs remain full.  Delaware Public Media
  • DNREC raised bluefish catch limits effective immediately for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Anglers on shore or private boats may keep five bluefish (up from three) while charter boat anglers may keep seven (up from five) under updated coastwide rules.  WBOC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The EPA has announced over $10.1 million in grant funding to help communities, drinking water systems, and private well owners address PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in Delaware. The funds will support testing, planning and infrastructure projects as part of a national effort to reduce emerging contaminants.  WGMD
  • DNREC updated bluefish limits for recreational anglers in 2026 and 2027. Anglers from private boats or the shore may keep up to five fish and those on for-hire boats may keep seven (following regional management plans).  Coast TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 319 to expand insurance coverage for medically necessary menopause treatments, including diagnostic testing, therapy options, and support services. The bill awaits a Senate vote to enhance comprehensive care for women and align the state with similar measures in neighboring areas.  Coast TV

  • Updated DIAA spring sports tournament scores and schedules released May 20 list first-round results and upcoming matches in softball, volleyball, lacrosse, tennis, track, golf and girls soccer.
