COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Twenty-eight organizations, Delaware farmers and market retailers received Delaware Grocery Initiative grants during the spring cycle, with over $700,000 distributed to boost food access programs and improve delivery services — state officials say the funding will strengthen local food security.  WGMD
  • The Food Bank of Delaware reported that the Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, May 9 collected 458,983 pounds of food from National Association of Letter Carriers members and sponsors + sustaining its over 30-year legacy of community support.  WDEL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dover Movies 14 will open a new theater in the former AMC space at Dover Mall by late summer or early fall. The local operator — Arthur Helmick — is upgrading the venue with heated recliner seating, advanced sound, and interactive features to boost mall activity.  WDEL
  • The old post office site is set to be transformed into 42 apartments and retail space by Frank DiMondi and partners Tom Kramedas and Ryan Halpern. The project will finish in fall '27 and is designed to honor the past while preparing for the future.  Bay to Bay News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kent County Levy Court passed a resolution to support the proposed Greater Dover Museum, a nonprofit effort to house local artifacts and stories. Project leaders say the museum will expand exhibits and educational programs downtown and plan to set a board and location this fall.  WBOC
  • Yesterday, National Hamburger Day saw national and local restaurants in Delaware offer burger deals to kick off summer dining. Wayback Burgers featured a $5 Classic Burger and other chains used app rewards for special promotions.  Delaware LIVE
  • CoastTV News earned its first regional Edward R. Murrow Award (Television/Small Market) after covering the Delaware legislative session resuming June 10. The win qualifies the station for national competition with winners announced in August.  Coast TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Akwasi Osei was named Professor Emeritus at Delaware State University during the May 15 Ceremonies on campus. He retired after 33 years of service — where he also served as Grand Marshal — and received the honor from DSU President Tony Allen.  Delaware State University

SPORTS NEWS

  • Conrad, the No. 1 seed (16-2 record), will begin the DIAA Baseball Tournament on Tuesday, June 2 with early round games hosted by higher seeds. The semifinals and championship will be played at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington.  Delaware Online
