COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Life Lines South opened Monday in Harrington on Shawnee Road as a new transitional housing program for young adults 18 to 23 that offers shelter and support services like education, job training, and mental health care. The renovated home can house up to 10 residents and is expected to serve about 15 youth each year (the first facility in Kent and Sussex counties to help those aging out of foster care or facing homelessness).  WBOC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Polytech High School held its graduation ceremony on June 5, awarding degrees to 374 students in its class of 2025. The school principal—acting as the ceremony's host—conferred the degrees during the event.  Bay to Bay News
  • Delaware State University’s Cooperative Extension held a hands-on workshop at the DSU Downtown Community Garden—teaching residents small-space gardening techniques such as lasagna and container gardening while collaborating with Kent County Master Gardener Volunteers.   • Dover High School celebrated its 125th commencement ceremony on June 6 with 453 graduates receiving their diplomas—despite a rainy start, the clouds cleared to bring sunshine—brightening the afternoon event.  Bay to Bay News

  • The Delaware DMV warned residents today about a text scam that falsely claims unpaid traffic fines and sends a link to pay before a deadline, threatening to suspend driving privileges if action is not taken & instructs recipients to report suspicious messages to the FTC or IC3 and secure their accounts.  Delaware LIVE
  • Representative Mara Gorman and Senator Marie Pinkney introduced House Bill 153 to ban citizen’s arrests unless law enforcement authorizes them, arguing that the current practice has been used with racial bias—this measure aims to reduce vigilantism and improve public safety in Delaware.  Bay to Bay News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bayhealth announced that its 40th Spring Golf Tournament raised over $76,000 (for the Heart & Vascular Institute) to boost local heart care services. The event was held on May 23 (in Dover).  Bay to Bay News
