- ➤ The Brandywine Valley SPCA is caring for nearly two dozen pets rescued from unsanitary conditions in a Kent County home last week—Delaware Animal Services Officers pulled the animals to safety, and the team is now preparing them for spay/neuter procedures and adoption. WGMD
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Delaware State Police said Brandon Lemon, 39, from Dover died on June 10 when he was struck by a Jeep Cherokee on Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway near White Oak Road — the driver from Berlin, Maryland was not injured. WGMD
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Draper Media announced that it will acquire six radio stations from Forever Media to expand local programming in Wilmington and Maryland’s Mid-Shore region—pending FCC approval. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter. WBOC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Delaware Senate passed a resolution asking the DIAA to review five years of championship data to see if private schools are outperforming public schools in sports. The review will help lawmakers decide on policy changes — the DIAA must submit its findings by April 30. Coast TV
- ➤ The Delaware State Senate passed the first leg of Senate Bill 100 proposing a constitutional amendment to protect marriage equality as a fundamental right – the measure now heads to the House of Representatives for review – and lawmakers say it will ensure that all legally recognized marriages are treated equally. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Tick encounters in Delaware have increased this season as warmth and humidity boost the activity of Lone Star, black-legged, and American dog ticks, raising concerns about Lyme disease and other illnesses. DNREC’s tick biologist Ashley Kennedy advised residents to use repellents correctly and follow prevention steps (such as proper tick removal and yard upkeep) to reduce bites. Delaware Online
