BUSINESS NEWS

  • Manufacturers including Mitsubishi, Harley-Davidson, Rivian, Kawasaki, Hyundai and Chrysler are recalling hundreds of thousands of vehicles to fix safety issues—ranging from frozen rear cameras to engine power loss and missing headlight labels. Affected owners were notified on June 16 and will get repair updates through local dealers with notification letters scheduled until August 2.  Delaware Online

CRIME NEWS

  • Dover police identified Daniel Guzman, a 22-year-old man killed on June 14 after being shot in the upper body outside a Barrister Place residence—he was one of five men shot while the shooter remains at large.  Delaware Online
  • Police arrested 26-year-old Justin Thomas on Saturday after he was caught with a handgun near Stevenson Drive following a Friday night shooting that injured a 50-year-old man—he now faces multiple charges including assault first degree, firearm-related offenses, and reckless endangerment.  WBOC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNREC is seeking public comment on revisions to the Delaware Wildlife Action Plan, a 10-year conservation strategy to guide efforts for wildlife through 2035. The draft document lists threats and proposed conservation actions and will be available for review later this summer with public meetings scheduled in July and August—comments can be emailed to [email protected] WGMD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peggy Schultz, a facilitator for People for Offshore Wind Energy Resources, said Sussex County Council denied a permit for a key offshore wind energy project needed by US Wind for its 1,700-MW development — a decision that local officials now face challenges over as Senate Bill 159 is set to require new electric substation permits in heavy industrial zones. The bill, sponsored by state representatives, will address the growing electricity demand and aims to boost clean energy capacity.  Bay to Bay News
  • The Delaware State Housing Authority released its first Disaster Housing Strategy that outlines six core goals—covering temporary housing, reconstruction, and support for vulnerable residents—to guide efforts after emergencies. Developed with the Delaware Emergency Management Agency and a Disaster Housing Task Force, the plan will continue to evolve as input from community partners is added.  Delaware LIVE
  • Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced Monday that 55 attorneys general signed on to a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sacklers—local governments will be asked to join the deal and Delaware will receive over $27 million as a lump sum after bankruptcy court approval.  WGMD
  • Senate Bill 75, sponsored by Sen. Trey Paradee and Rep. Edward Osienski, moves to the House today and will set statewide rules for zoning, operating hours and permits for marijuana businesses. The bill will override local ordinances and limit county restrictions on retail stores—ensuring uniform standards for both medical and retail outlets.  Coast TV
