CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Delaware State Police arrested 19-year-old Tyree Johnson (Harrington) and 22-year-old Tymere Harmon (Dover) for multiple felony charges linked to a June 12 shooting near the Slaughter Beach Memorial Volunteer Fire Company where a man was injured at a party, and investigators are asking the public for help to identify other suspects. - ➤ On Saturday, June 21, Delaware State Police in Dover arrested 61-year-old Anthony McLeish of Magnolia for a 9th offense felony DUI after a traffic stop on Walnut Shade Road & South Dupont Highway, where he failed sobriety tests, fled on foot, and later kicked a trooper in the face while he received treatment for minor injuries. - ➤ Dover Police are investigating a murder on Barrister Place where 22 year old Daniel Guzman Junior was shot dead at about 12:42 a.m. on June 14th — four people were also shot when several suspects opened fire near a residence, and anyone with information is urged to call the police or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333. - ➤ Two Delaware high school students were named national winners in the America’s Field Trip contest tied to the 250th anniversary of US independence. Grace Sweeten (Sussex Academy) and Vivian Wan (Tower Hill School) will have their work featured at the Delaware Public Archives and join field trips to historic national landmarks this summer. - ➤ Dover City Council approved its fiscal year 2026 budget on June 23—raising electricity rates by 10%—in a 7-2 vote. Bay to Bay News
- ➤ Delaware House passed Senate Bill 75, which limits county restrictions on cannabis sales to create a regulated market and now awaits Governor Matt Meyer's signature. House Majority Whip Ed Osienski said the bill protects sensitive areas—such as schools, daycares, and places of worship—and limits retail cannabis licenses to 30 to avoid an oversaturation of dispensaries. - ➤ Delaware’s State Senate is set to vote on a $6.5B budget and a $37M supplemental spending plan that will boost education through a 2% teacher raise to $60,000, free lunch, and extra support services—lawmakers say the measures also fund Medicaid, employee benefits, and victims’ support without raising property taxes ahead of the session ending June 30.
