- ➤ Two men are charged after a shooting at the Slaughter Beach Memorial Fire Company pavilion on June 12th when masked individuals fired and one man was shot and later released from the hospital; the suspects include 19-year-old Tyree Johnson (Harrington) and 22-year-old Tymere Harmon (Dover). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ House Bill 82 was introduced in the Delaware General Assembly and will require school board candidates and members to live in the districts they represent and spend at least 25 percent of the year there — an exemption applies for military service. Lawmakers say that if a member is away for over 75 percent of the days during their term, anyone may ask Superior Court to declare the seat vacant — a measure aimed at ensuring local accountability. - ➤ On Thursday, the Senate unanimously passed House Bill 1 which creates the new State Department of Veterans Affairs to offer care, specialized services and advocacy for over 70,000 veterans. The bill passed the House in May and now awaits the Governor’s signature — it includes a plan to move the department out from under the Department of State by July 1. WGMD
