- ➤ Two Delaware students have been named national winners in the America's Field Trip contest and will have their award-winning works showcased at the Delaware Public Archives. Grace Sweeten (a ninth grader at Sussex Academy) and Vivian Wan (a tenth grader at Tower Hill School) received awards for their original artwork and essay respectively. WDEL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Delaware House advanced a bill that would require customers to ask for extra napkins, utensils, and condiment packets with takeout orders to reduce waste. The measure passed out of committee and will move to a full House vote before being sent to the Senate—restaurants could face warnings and fines for violations. Delaware Public Media
- ➤ Delaware lawmakers approved a resolution to create an Automobile Insurance Reform Task Force to study ways to lower rising auto insurance costs — the group will review reforms to medical payment structures and help residents keep more of their wages. Lawmakers and supporters say the move comes after growing concern over high living expenses driven by severe weather and rising medical costs. WBOC
- ➤ Delaware officials said the Sober Rides program will offer free ride vouchers worth up to $20 for a Lyft or Uber ride on Independence Day—voucher codes can be claimed at MySoberRides.com starting at 8:00 a.m. on July 4. The vouchers will be valid from noon until 3:30 a.m. on July 5 to help reduce impaired driving. WBOC
- ➤ Delaware drivers are advised to follow eight key traffic laws to avoid fines and stay safe—these rules cover proper speeds, using hands-free devices, and keeping a safe 3ft distance when passing bicyclists. The guidelines also include a Move Over law that now requires slowing to 20 mph when approaching vehicles with flashing lights and a rule to turn off vehicles when left unattended—each measure designed to reduce road hazards.
