Good morning, Dover. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 4th of July.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New data shows Delaware recorded 43 DUI arrests per 100,000 drivers — far fewer than states like South Dakota and North Dakota — and officials say this low rate is a result of focused prevention efforts. The Delaware Office of Highway Safety is offering free ride vouchers today to help reduce impaired driving as celebrations continue this Fourth of July.  Delaware LIVE
  • The ICEBlock app lets users record and share ICE activity near them in a five-mile area, and it is legal if users say they are recording — says the ACLU of Delaware. The free app is on Apple’s App Store and will not disrupt law enforcement when used correctly.  Delaware Online
  • On July 2, a federal judge in Baltimore denied US Wind’s request to dismiss a legal challenge from over 30 plaintiffs who claim the offshore wind project off the coast will harm local marine life and tourism—allowing key claims to move forward while two claims were dismissed.  Coast TV
  • Dover resident Tyron Scott said that recent electric and utility rate increases by Dover City Council and the city manager will hurt many families, especially those facing financial strain. He urged the Public Service Commission and the attorney general’s office to investigate the hikes — calling them unauthorized.  Bay to Bay News
  • The General Assembly passed legislation to form an Automobile Insurance Reform Task Force to lower rising insurance costs and ease financial burdens for Delaware ratepayers. Senator Spiros Mantzavinos said the task force will bring together experts in insurance, auto repairs, law, and health care—addressing issues such as costly medical payments and losses from severe weather events.  WGMD
