CRIME NEWS

  • On June 30 just after 7:30 p.m.—when officers responded to Walmart on Jerome Drive—Delaware State Police arrested a 25-year-old man from Smyrna who was accused of trying to tow an SUV with a teen and infant inside, and they are seeking a 36-year-old Dover man on charges including first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree conspiracy and criminal mischief.  WBOC
  • Dover Police arrested 20-year-old Makhai Miller on July 2 for his role in a June shooting outside a home on Barrister Place that killed Daniel Guzman Jr. and injured four others—authorities said Miller is charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and Reckless Endangering First Degree and was held on $66,000 cash bail.  WBOC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Delaware Public Archives launched an exhibit titled 'Revolutionary Lives' that shows lesser-known stories of Delaware’s fight for independence by displaying items such as a replica Revolutionary War uniform and historic documents. Modern contributions from local students Grace Sweeten and Vivian Wan are featured — the exhibit is open in Dover through next July — as part of celebrations leading up to America’s 250th birthday.  Delaware Public Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • DSU will hold its Annual Summer Research Symposium on July 31 in the MLK Parlors where summer students present research. Undergraduate, high school and middle school students must register and submit poster abstracts to compete for prizes—abstracts are due July 21 at 11:00 p.m. and registration is due July 30 at 11:59 a.m.  Delaware State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hunting and trapping guides are available free from the DNREC licensing office in Dover — the annual booklet lists the 2025/26 season dates and explains Delaware laws for legal harvest of game animals and gamebirds — licenses can be purchased online.  WDEL
  • Medical marijuana dispensaries with conversion licenses will begin selling recreational cannabis Aug 1 — the Marijuana Commissioner said the office will issue all conditional licenses by the end of summer so other shops can join the market.  Delaware Public Media
