- ➤ Delaware Online’s final Most Famous Delawarean poll runs from July 19 to July 23 and shows Aubrey Plaza in first place, Dave Tiberi second, President Biden third, Bob Marley fourth, with Caesar Rodney and A.I. du Pont tied for fifth—making a top six ranking. Voting ends July 23 and the winner will be revealed on July 26—giving Delawareans a chance to pick the best-known First Stater. Delaware Online
- ➤ Loblolly Acres, a family farm in Kent County known for its childhood memories, is launching a nonprofit arts program to bring local and national artists to the community this summer. The planned events include concerts on August 8 and August 16 plus a BBQ with ballet and blues on August 24 to offer diverse art experiences without the need to travel afar. Delaware Online
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Delaware's Department of Labor reported that overall unemployment remained at 4% in June but increased in Kent County from 4.1% to 4.9% and in Sussex County from 3.7% to 4% with the number of unemployed rising from 19,100 to 20,500. The report noted that the private education and health services sector added 1,300 jobs + other sectors such as construction, government, and leisure hospitality also saw growth. WBOC
- ➤ AARP and Hire a Helper say Delaware ranked seventh in retirement moves in 2024 — moves for retirement made up 6.2% of the national total. Sussex County is the main destination as it has an average age over 55 and nearly one-third of its population is 65 or older. Delaware Online

- ➤ Local rules in Delaware ban sleeping overnight in cars at most beach towns such as Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany, and Fenwick Island—Bethany only allows car naps during the day—and in inland towns like Georgetown and Milton where drivers may face fines up to $200. Some rest stops on I-95 and Route 1 and counties including New Castle, Dover, and Kent let drivers sleep in their vehicles. Delaware Online

- ➤ NASCAR team owner Denny Hamlin said his 23XI Racing will race as open entries at Dover this weekend after a federal judge rejected their request to keep their charters amid an antitrust suit against NASCAR, a ruling that may force the team to qualify by speed if more than 40 cars enter.
