  • Dave's Hot Chicken will open its first Delaware location in Dover this Friday, Aug. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at 318 North Dupont Highway—bringing a grand opening celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, free sliders for the first 100 guests, raffles for a year of free sliders, a live DJ and games in partnership with the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and local officials.  Delaware LIVE

CRIME NEWS

  • A Philadelphia man, Khar Abdulah, was arrested and extradited to Delaware after police linked him to late-spring crimes including the kidnapping of a man outside a Wilmington residence, a burglary in New Castle, and an attempted robbery at a PNC Bank parking lot on Marsh Road + he faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges and is held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.  WDEL

  • Residents on Delmarva recently experienced two tornado warnings, multiple severe thunderstorm warnings, and increased flash flood alerts as the region endures peak hurricane season. The National Weather Service and Sussex County Emergency Management advise securing outdoor items, checking emergency kits, and following local alerts—steps that are vital to staying safe in extreme weather.  Coast TV

FINANCE NEWS

  • Wilmington Mayor John Carney announced expanded tax exemption eligibility for seniors and residents with disabilities—providing up to a 100% break for those who qualified before May 16. Other counties offer similar tax relief programs with varying deadlines, and Dover’s local senior exemption cutoff closed on March 1.  Delaware Online

  • Governor Matt Meyer signed six health bills that expand care—reduce lead in rental housing, protect medical providers, update opioid settlement law, designate August 31 as International Overdose Day, create a breastfeeding program for incarcerated mothers, and boost support for people with hearing disabilities.   • Blood Bank of Delmarva declared a blood emergency after its supply dropped below a 2-day inventory—far less than the 7-day reserve needed for hospitals. The bank said donations across all blood types (especially O-negative and O-positive) are urgently needed as the summer slowdown in donations and increased trauma cases strain the supply.  WDEL
