  • The Cape May–Lewes Ferry has been named Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award winner for 2025, placing it in the top 10% of destinations worldwide based on traveler reviews—this is the 14th time the ferry earned the honor for its quality service.  Delaware LIVE

CRIME NEWS

  • Joshua Lewis, a 37-year-old Newark man, was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for robbing banks in Wilmington and Dover and for possessing a ghost gun and ammunition — U.S. Attorney Julianne E. Murray said the sentence reflects the threat his actions posed to public safety.  WGMD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Matt Meyer signed House Bill 71 today, requiring coaches in the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association to get training in CPR, first aid, and AED use for quick responses during emergencies. The law also asks schools to build an Emergency Action Plan—ensuring AEDs are nearby and kept in working order.  WGMD
  • Gov. Matt Meyer visited the First State Compassion Center in Milford to tour Delaware’s first homegrown cannabis cultivation facility ahead of recreational marijuana sales that will begin August 1—highlighting the state’s strict production process.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware announced a partnership with nonprofit Undue Medical Debt to wipe out $50 million in medical debt for about 17,000 residents with household incomes at or below 400% of the federal poverty level. Governor Matt Meyer secured $500,000 in state funds last month and qualifying residents will soon receive letters confirming their cleared debt.  Delaware Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Six Delaware hospitals were honored by the American Heart Association for following guidelines that help improve care for heart attacks and strokes. The awards come through the Get With The Guidelines initiative and include Bayhealth Hospital at Kent Campus, Bayhealth Medical Center at Milford Memorial Hospital, Beebe Healthcare, Christiana Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and TidalHealth Nanticoke.  Delaware LIVE
  • The Delaware Division of Public Health will host back-to-school and sports physical days in early August at one clinic per county for Delawareans needing a physical for school or DIAA activities. Residents should schedule appointments because walk-in availability is limited—maximum out-of-pocket cost is $20 regardless of insurance.  Delaware LIVE
