- ➤ On Friday, August 8th, a car hit a toll booth at Dover toll plaza injuring a toll collector—DelDOT said drivers must slow to 10 mph for safety. WDEL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 9, the DSUAA NCCo Chapter held its 42nd annual Scholarship Luncheon at the Executive Banquet and Conference Center in Newark where it awarded $1,250 scholarships to seven incoming DSU freshmen. The event also honored six honorees for their service and DSU achievements — including DSU Football Head Coach DeSean Jackson — and was attended by 287 alumni and University officials. - ➤ Kent County Levy Court voted unanimously to double paramedic sign-on bonuses — increasing the maximum bonus to $10,000 over three years to attract qualified paramedics amid 11 vacancies. The court also approved raising EMS trainee work hours from 35 to 40 per week and reallocated funds to cover $36,000 in cost overruns at Frederica EMS station — caused by using recycled concrete to stabilize new building soil. - ➤ Delaware reassessed property values for the first time in 50 years and many Sussex County homeowners saw higher taxes due to mistakes in their home records — for instance, listing a non-existent basement.
