  • On Aug. 13, Gov. Matt Meyer signed a suite of bills that change property tax rules for New Castle County homeowners in Dover. The new law splits school tax rates and extends payment deadlines to Nov. 30—aiming to ease residents' tax burdens while providing direct refunds for eligible overpayments.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer signed House Bill 1 today to create the Delaware Department of Veterans Affairs—this new agency will provide streamlined benefits for over 70,000 veterans and will become a standalone organization by 2030.  Coast TV
  • Dover City Council approved Daniel Griffith as the new city solicitor yesterday — he is the managing partner at Wilmington’s Whiteford, Taylor & Preston and will handle the city's legal matters. The decision ended a months-long search after Nicholas Rodriguez retired following 57 years of service.  Delaware Public Media
  • Delaware lawmakers passed seven bills on Tuesday in a special session to ease steep property tax increases in New Castle and Sussex counties by offering payment plans and tax refunds—short-term measures until further revisions are made. The legislature acted after a court order required countywide property value reassessments—which led to significant tax increases for many homeowners.  WBOC
  • Yesterday, Gov. Matt Meyer signed House Bill 1 into law, setting up a new state-level Department of Veterans Affairs led by a cabinet-level secretary to help over 75,000 veterans get healthcare and benefits.
