GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • As of Aug. 1, legal marijuana sales began in Delaware and DelDOT warned drivers that driving under the influence of cannabis is unsafe and illegal—effects last one to three hours for smoked cannabis and several hours for edibles. The department urges drivers to wait until the effects wear off to avoid a DUI.  Coast TV
  • Gov. Matt Meyer ordered flags at state-owned buildings to be flown at half-staff until sunset today to honor Dover veteran Tommy Anderson—who died Aug. 1 at 102 and served in the ghost army during World War II. His funeral was held at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 14 at Trader Funeral Home.  Delaware Online
  • On August 14th, Governor Matt Meyer signed Senate Bill 4 to establish a non-partisan, independent Office of the Inspector General — the office will investigate allegations of fraud, waste, and mismanagement in state agencies and improve government transparency.  WGMD
  • DNREC and Kent County Levy Court officials signed a conciliation order on Aug. 14 to resolve past wastewater issues—further improvements to the system are planned.  Bay to Bay News
  • Dover Police Chief Thomas A. Johnson, Jr. said a small group tried to discredit the police by making claims that lack proof and distract from gang violence and youth crimes. He said the department will keep working to protect the public with clear and honest steps—ignoring efforts that seem politically motivated.  WGMD

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wegmans recalled its Medium Camembert Soft Ripened Cheese and products that contain it from stores in Delaware and nine other states since July 1 due to a possible listeria risk—customers should return the cheese for a full refund.  Delaware Online

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Delaware posted the nation’s highest foreclosure rate in Q1 2025 after filings increased 58% from last year—one in every 761 housing units received a foreclosure filing. Nationwide, foreclosure filings rose 11% from the previous quarter but declined 2% from Q1 2024.  Delaware Online
