CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Dover’s Tiny Art Project uses local artists to turn broken walls, missing bricks, and cracks into public art—transforming needed repairs into creative designs. The project, funded by the Division of Arts and Keep Delaware Beautiful, will open applications on September 20, review proposals in October, and start painting on November 1.  WBOC
  • The Delaware Caribbean Carnival—celebrating its second annual event—brought island flair to Loockerman Street with a lively parade while Legislative Mall served as the site for the day-long celebration on August 18th.  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lt. Gov. Kyle Evans Gay, chair of the Interagency Resource Management Committee, will lead efforts to expand early education and affordable child care in Delaware. The committee will meet at 2 p.m. Aug. 21 to set a plan that could help lower the state’s $451 million annual cost from limited child care—an approach designed to benefit families and the economy.  Bay to Bay News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DelDOT announced it will begin a bridge painting project on Coastal Highway between Cedar Beach Road and NE Front Street on Aug.22 with lane closures Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.—the work is expected to finish in late fall if weather holds.  Coast TV
  • Gov. Meyer lifted the state's drought watch after 10 months of dryness as nearly an inch above average rain in July replenished water supplies—experts confirmed the improved water balance shows recovery.  Delaware Public Media
  • Data from the Delaware Department of Transportation shows that the busiest road is a section of Interstate 95 near Christiana Mall carrying about 218571 vehicles daily. Other busy roads include parts of Route 13 and Interstate 295 in New Castle County plus sections of Route 1 in Kent and Sussex Counties.  Delaware Online
  • After more than 20 years of attempts, Delaware legalized direct-to-consumer wine shipments when the law took effect on Aug.15—allowing licensed in-state and out-of-state producers to ship wine directly to residents’ homes.  Bay to Bay News
  • FOP Lodge 15 called for Dover Police Chief Thomas Johnson to resign—citing misuse of his city-issued vehicle and low officer morale on Aug. 15. The call was made in one of the lodge’s first Facebook posts in four years.  Bay to Bay News
