- ➤ Aubrey Plaza opened up on Amy Poehler's podcast Aug 19 about the loss of her husband, Jeff Baena, saying she struggles with daily grief following his suicide seven months ago — she also promoted her film Honey Don't! set to release in theaters on Aug 22 and mentioned an upcoming stage role in Ethan Coen’s Let’s Love! with previews starting Sept 25. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Delaware State University hosted its second annual Project L.E.A.D. summer camp in July—an expanded, two‑week event—for middle and high school students. Ninety-two percent of participants said the program helped them see themselves as leaders and sparked interest in teaching careers. Delaware State University
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hurricane Erin has caused dangerous rip currents and high waves along Delaware beaches since Aug. 19 and will keep the threat active through Aug. 21. Authorities have closed ocean access at Dewey and Rehoboth beaches - drive-on paths at Delaware Seashore and Fenwick Island State Parks are also shut to protect beachgoers. Delaware Online
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kent County was fined $400,000 for repeated wastewater violations since 2017, including an overflow on April 6th when a rainstorm overwhelmed its aging system, and DNREC will partner with the county on corrective projects—half of the fine will fund upgrades while the rest goes to the state. - ➤ Gov. Matt Meyer lifted Delaware’s drought watch on Aug. 18—summer rains over the past six months restored water levels to normal. He thanked Delawareans for their water conservation—urging them to keep saving water as fall nears. Delaware Online
- ➤ The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #15 voted 93% no confidence in Dover Police Chief Tomas A. Johnson after officers reported his misuse of a city vehicle for personal trips — including teaching and vacations, which has hurt department morale. Mayor Robin Christiansen said he will address these internal matters while ensuring public safety remains intact. WBOC
- ➤ Governor Matt Meyer and the state’s Water Supply Coordinating Council and Drought Response Committee lifted a 10-month drought watch (in effect since October) as officials reported improved water conditions. Bay to Bay News
