  • Delaware students are returning to class as teachers set up lessons and decorate classrooms—state officials remind drivers to be cautious in school zones and around school buses for safety.  Coast TV
  • Delaware State University received a $749,968 NSF Noyce Teacher Scholarship Grant—supporting its STEM educator program in opportunity-rich schools. Dr. Tina Mitchell and her team will offer scholarships, mentoring, and hands-on learning—helping address teacher shortages for diverse classrooms.  Delaware State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Delaware officials with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control reported a survey showing that 79% of respondents believe climate change is a serious threat to future generations. The survey released August 29th asks what steps the state can take—fueling talks on future policy.  Bay to Bay News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Matt Meyer vetoed a bill to remove county rules for marijuana shops — the decision keeps local counties in charge of setting policies for the legal cannabis market.  Bay to Bay News
  • Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings and a group of state officials won a fight over funding as the White House Office of Management and Budget agreed to release more than $184 million for AmeriCorps programs — including $750,000 for local initiatives. This action will keep service programs running and support community efforts in Delaware.  WGMD
  • Dover officials found that the city violated FOIA by not disclosing public employee bonus and overtime pay records when a request was made on August 29th—city management has yet to explain the oversight.  Bay to Bay News

  • On Thursday, Captain Aaron Herd took three anglers on the Gale Force charter at Indian River Inlet where they caught four keeper flounder ranging from 17.5 to 19.5 inches — Mike Fischer with his father fished the Old Grounds while Nick Garcia with Captain Gordon Muller fished in Delaware Bay, with Garcia catching his best flounder at 25.5 inches — according to Eric Burnley’s report.  WGMD
